Why I Started LaoBuilt
It started from feeling like there was nothing out there that was ours. I'm Lao, I'm an architect, I went to school in Hawaii surrounded by the diaspora — and I kept seeing people repping their culture through other brands. Nothing built specifically for us, by us. Even my own cousins wear Hawaiian local brands like Local Motion or T&C.
I'm based in Vientiane now, running an architecture firm, but I think about the diaspora constantly — the aunties in Texas, the cousins in California, the relatives in Hawaii who never stopped being Lao even when the world forgot we existed. LaoBuilt is for them. It's not just a shirt — it's a way to say you're still connected to something, even if you've never been to Laos or haven't been back in years.
